Summer, it seems, is winding down, as evidenced by the recent spike in hits this blog has seen in the last few days, almost entirely from people looking for information on the Presidents of the United States.  I can only guess that these queries were generated by a social studies class in some early-starting district.  I’m surprised that this blog would even register on such a search, and I can’t imagine it was very helpful, but nonetheless I’m pleased you stopped by.

As for me, I begin student teaching next week, at a large public high school with a struggling reputation in North Minneapolis (I’ll be in a Language Arts classroom).  I have yet to meet my cooperating teacher or my university supervisor, and while I occasionally become terrified that I’m going to be eaten alive by this entire experience, I just keep reminding myself that I’m bound to hit my stride in there somewhere, that I have experience working with high school students, and that the student teaching experience is an invaluable one.  So, in the end I’m eager, if nervous.

I will do my best to chronicle the experience here, and I’m sure it will call to mind ideas and opinions about teaching and learning, so stay tuned for that as well.

Finally, I’ve been in touch with a woman from a local arts center about being a part of a youth writing group that is starting up, an experience that could possibly get me that much closer to the job of my dreams.
